Born and raised in Los Angeles, Moe Espinosa (aka Drumcell) is a foundational figure in North American techno and a co-founder of the legendary Droid Behavior collective. A classically trained musician with roots in the industrial and punk scenes, he has evolved into a master of analog synthesis and engineering. His technical expertise has led to studio collaborations with iconic artists like Alessandro Cortini (NIN), Gary Numan, and George Clinton, while his own productions on labels like Dystopian, CLR, and Droid Recordings are championed by techno stalwarts such as Luke Slater and Speedy J.
Drumcell’s sonic identity is defined by a raw, hypnotic style that bridges the gap between digital precision and analog grit, frequently gracing world-renowned stages from Berghain to Movement Detroit. Beyond the dancefloor, he explores more cinematic, experimental textures through his ambient project, HYPOXIA, utilizing Buchla and Eurorack modular systems to create immersive soundscapes. Whether through high-energy techno or contemplative hardware performances, Espinosa remains one of the most versatile and influential hardware enthusiasts in the global electronic community.
